Eric Schmidt denies the cheating claims with Google search results

The chief executive of Google, Eric Schmidt, was presented today before the U.S. Senate to answer questions from parliamentary commission of Antitrust, Competition and Consumer Rights. At the hearing, Schmidt dismissed charges against the company that manages seeker search results to favor their own services.

For an hour and a half, Schmidt said repeatedly that the algorithms used by Google are designed to deliver the best results for users, and not give preference to products from some companies or the products of themselves hiddenly.

Schmidt, who served as CEO of Google until last April, began the meeting by reading a statement that sought to separate the company from Microsoft, which also faced a U.S. antitrust process.

“20 years ago, a large technology company was setting the world on fire. But the company lost sight of what was important and Washington had to intervene. Many of us in Silicon Valley, we absorbed the lessons of that era. We understand. By that, I mean we understand the lessons of our corporate predecessors, “said Schmidt.

Google also is being closely watched in Europe by the same subject, while in the U.S. investigation began last June.

The problem is that, as it has grown, Google has started to add services such as maps, shopping, travel, operating systems, etc.., Going to compete with a multitude of services. Being the dominant online search engine giant, is feared to attack the competition by promoting their services over others in the search results.

Schmidt said Google’s challenge is to deliver the most relevant answers to users. “This means that not all sites may appear first in the ranking. It’s a problem list and definitely receive complaints from companies who want to be first even if not the best alternative, the best way we can determine that, for our customers, “said Schmidt.

The CEO also said that Google is an option that users can always choose another browser. “The final correction against the errors that Google makes is how consumers behave. Google Adwords is now much more powerful

Google lately made two very useful improvements on their Adwords money machine. The first one is the optional feature to be able to put keywords for certain placements (websites) on the content network. As you maybe know, content network is always the target of MFA (Made for Adsense) sites to crop huge profits by Adsense Arbitrage methods. Now, it is more easy to prevent and control it by individually choosing the placements in the campaign. But, the unexperienced Adwords advertisers who don’t target their ads according to language, location and placements will continue being the victims of Arbitrage professionals. Here are two screenshots from one of my campaigns showing the placement targeting options with sample websites I have added now for demonstration.

The other progress is about keyword tool. You can now see statistics on the approximate number of search queries matching your keywords. This data allows you to better plan your budget and pick keywords most likely to return quality leads, which in turn can help improve your ROI.
